The Karkonosze Museum of Jelenia Gora

Jelenia Gora, Poland
2011

The Karkonosze Museum in Jelenia Góra boasts of having the largest collection of modern glass artwork in Poland. The beautiful exhibition of this collection became possible thanks to the modernization and expansion that was finished in 2011 based on the design of architect Dr. Marek Skorupski of Arch-E Design Studio.

The entry hall holds Tomasz Urbanowicz’s specially designed original reception piece. It’s a brave piece, reminiscent of an army plane which is invisible to radar, with a natural “levitating in space” slate top called “Roma” resting solely on glass legs in relief. It’s this glass which foretells the fascinating glass adventure awaiting visitors to the museum.

The museum’s collection includes other works by Urbanowicz: a glass bear from EXPO 200 Hannover, a grand glass disk called “20512 Aosta Valley 2012 Gresoney” placed outside by the entrance, a piece called “Karpacz-Wang” from 2012 and watercolor designs.
