‘The Holsten Brewery’ in Hamburg

Hamburg, Germany
2000

At the turn of the XX and XXI century the Holstein Brewery was the largest brewery in Germany. The history of Holsten-Brauerei AG is closely intertwined with Hamburg and Altona, where the brewery was first opened in 1879. In 1999 a fire broke out in the plant and it was decided that the insurance money would be used for renovations.

The main hall was designed by architect Horst Meyer of Hamburg. who invited Tomasz Urbanowicz to cooperate. Urbanowicz used his “beer imagination” to create glass inspired by the brewing process, which explains the colors of barley and hops. In the year 2000 the glass was placed into furniture in the reception area and the wall of the hall.
