The Department of Theology at the Silesian University in Katowice

Katowice, Poland
2004

The Department of Theology at the Silesian University in Katowice is located in a wonderful building on Jordana street that was put into use in 2004. The architectural firm responsible for the project is „Stabil” Sp. z o.o.

Tomasz Urbanowicz, cooperating with the architects, especially with Henryk Wilkosz, designed and created glass artwork for the chapel and reception in the hall.

The glass elements, that are so important to the atmosphere and character of the interior of the chapel are: the large composition “The Crucifixion”, the altar top, the glass in the pulpit and three thick pieces of glass in the windows with symbols of Christianity. One of the pieces has a “touch” of red- it is symbolic in the understanding of the glass, as well as the only color in the monochromatic building…

The investor was the Metropolitan Curia of the Archdiocese of Katowice.
