“Poland – Wind in the Sails” at EXPO 2008 in Zaragoza

Zaragoza (Saragossa), Spain
2008

The inspiration for the architectural concept for the Pavilion of Poland, designed by Marcin Przygoda and Adrian Górecki from the architectural firm KIPP Projekt, was the leading theme of EXPO 2008- “Water and Sustainable Development”.
While designing the pavilion’s interior, the architects referred to Poland’s leading role in the production of modern yachts by making the walls in the shape of sails. Due to the victory in a competition organized by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, the sculpture designed and created by Tomasz Urbanowicz imitates a full spinnaker.

The massive glass thrown into space and held in place with nautical sheets and braces symbolizes success, freedom, full power and the correct course in which Poland is headed.

The Pavilion of Poland was awarded a bronze medal in the competition for the best pavilion of EXPO 2008.
